The truth is, a great headshot isn’t just about looking good, it’s about showing up as the most confident version of yourself.

When it comes to photoshoots, the camera can lie

Let's be absolutely honest about headshots. When it comes to photoshoots, the camera can lie - becasue it amplifies details we wouldn't normally see in the natural world while interacting with each other. Every crease, crinkle, and coffee stain suddenly becomes the star of the show. The truth is, a great headshot isn’t just about looking good, it’s about showing up as the most confident version of yourself. Whether you’re building your personal brand or representing your company, the little details make a world of difference.

So, here’s how to get photo-ready — JaDID style.

Let us bring your skeleton crew to life

You bring the brief, we bring the backbone. Our curated freelancers and hands-on consultants keep projects lean, agile, and brilliant - without the extra overhead.

Let's take a headshot!

1. Keep it simple, keep it sharp

Patterns might be fun at brunch, but under studio lights they can fight for attention. Go for solid, block colours that complement your skin tone and contrast gently with the background. Think timeless, not trendy - you want your image to feel relevant six months (or six LinkedIns) from now.

2. Press, polish, prepare

Wrinkled clothes are the silent assassins of good photos. Iron the night before, bring a lint roller, and double-check your outfit before stepping on set. It’s easier to smooth things out at home than fix them in Photoshop later.

3. Mind your mane

Fly-away hairs are mischievous things - invisible in the mirror, but front-row in your final photo. A light styling product or a quick brush-through before the shoot can save hours of retouching later. The goal isn’t perfection, just neatness that feels effortless.

4. Bring the right kit

Pack a small ‘camera-ready’ kit: paper towels or blotting sheets to manage shine, a spare comb, lip balm, and a drink of water. (You’d be surprised how many people forget to hydrate - and dehydration shows.)

5. Set the tone

If you’re nervous in front of the lens, bring a little of your world with you. A playlist you love. A podcast that makes you laugh. Music changes your posture - singing along to a tune you like softens your jaw, straightens your shoulders, and reminds you that this isn’t a test, it’s a moment.

6. Relax — you’ve got this

The best photoshoots feel less like posing and more like conversation. The camera captures energy, not angles. Breathe, smile, and trust your photographer - their job is to see the best in you and bring it forward. Come as the most confident version of yourself, becasue if you feel beautiful - we can handle the rest.

7. Own your presence

This is your first impression before you even enter the room. Dress as the person you’re becoming, not just the person you are today. Because when you step into that light with intention, the world takes notice.

How we shoot at JaDID and co.

We like to keep things calm, clear, and confident. Before your session, we’ll share a headshot concept so you know exactly what to expect; lighting, tone, mood, and backdrop. When you arrive, you’ll be guided through the shoot so you can focus on relaxing, not worrying.

We don’t show raw photos on set, and that’s intentional. The unedited shots won’t reflect the final result, and we don’t want you judging half-baked images. Yes, we use Photoshop (and other editing tools) to do what they’re meant for: polishing, refining, and highlighting you at your best. Think of it as the digital equivalent of good lighting and a deep breath.

And a quick note on timing is that call time matters. Every shoot is booked to the minute. Arriving late can mean losing your slot entirely and may incur additional costs. So please, plan ahead. Treat your shoot like an important meeting... because it is.

At JaDID, we see every headshot as a story in a single frame - an introduction, a handshake, a first hello. So whether it’s for your team page or your next big campaign, take the time to prepare properly. You’re building more than an image, you’re building trust.
